PROJECT PLANNING GUIDE

Planning a Tree Removal Project

A useful tree removal estimate starts with the work area, the access route, and what you want the property to look like afterward. A photo can help start the conversation, but a site visit may be needed to assess the tree and surrounding conditions.

Before you request an estimate

  1. Identify the tree and its position relative to buildings, fences, pools, driveways, and overhead lines.
  2. Measure the narrowest gate or access point only when it is safe and practical; note slopes, soft ground, and obstacles.
  3. Decide whether the estimate should include limb and trunk removal, haul-away, and stump grinding. List these separately.
  4. Ask how the crew will protect nearby surfaces, where equipment can stage, and what conditions could change the written scope.
  5. Check with your local jurisdiction or association about tree protection, permits, work hours, and access rules.
