PROJECT PLANNING GUIDE
How to Describe Changes in a Tree
You can share useful observations without diagnosing a tree. Note what changed, when you noticed it, and whether the issue is near a building, path, or utility.
Before you request an estimate
- From a safe distance, note changes such as a new lean, cracked trunk, disturbed soil, hanging limbs, or unusual canopy loss.
- Record when you first noticed the change and whether it followed a storm, construction, or root disturbance.
- Take photos from a safe place without walking beneath damaged limbs or onto unstable ground.
- Keep people away if branches are hanging or the tree contacts a structure; report immediate hazards when requesting help.
- Ask what qualifications and inspection scope are appropriate for the concern; an online questionnaire is not a diagnosis.
